Council looks at installing new 'cycle stand' on Harbour Road
The council is looking at installing a 'secure bicycle stand' on green space adjacent to the public toilets on the Harbour Road in Skerries.
Cllr Tom O'Leary (FG) called on the council to 'survey the area on Harbour Road Skerries with a view to locating a suitable location for a secure bicycle stand where local residents and tourists can attach their cycles securely, preferably in an area with passive surveillance (opposite popular Blue Bar for example) or maybe in one of the taxi rank spaces.'
In response, the council reported: 'The road and path area available at the harbour is too restrictive, and removing parking spaces will prove problematic, however, an area in the green space adjacent to the public toilets at the harbour will be examined for the installation of a secure bicycle stand.'
Cllr O'Leary said the area was well used by cyclists and at present, there was nowhere to safely park a bike and it was a situation that needed to be addressed.
He welcomed the council's response and said he looked forward to the facility being installed in the area.
