Casino to open in 2019
The first quarter of 2019 is set to be the opening date for the newly refurbished Casino building in Malahide and return of the Fry Model Railway to Malahide, inside the revamped building.
In an update given to councillors on the Malahide/Howth Area Committee, Fingal County Council said that enabling works for the exciting tourism project were completed in July and August.
Among those works was an effort to protect the building's roof and erect a site hoarding to secure the existing cottage which will remain in place until the construction works are complete.
Tenders have been sought for the exhibition design and delivery and an appointment is expected in November, 2017. It is expected that the design of the exhibition layout will be available in March 2018.
According to the council, work is well advanced on development of tender documentation for the full refurbishment and extension works.
Tenders are expected to be invited through a new heritage contractors framework which has recently been advertised and will be operational by October which should allow appointment of a contractor in 2017.
The council said: 'This is a significant refurbishment project and it is expected that the works will take 12 months to complete on site, finishing end of 2018.The fit-out and commissioning of the exhibition will be follow on contract and should take four weeks to complete, which should allow the opening of the restored building and Fry Model Railway in Q1 2019.'
