Balbriggan's Mel wins nursing award
A Balbriggan Nursing Home is celebrating after claiming a top honour at the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards, in association with Homecare Medical Supplies. Mel Uy of Hamilton Park Care Facility, Balbriggan, was the winner of the Nursing Home Registered Nurse of the Year Award.
Mel claimed his honour before 400+ representatives from the nursing home, older person care and health sectors across Ireland at the awards ceremony at Citywest Hotel, Co Dublin, on Thursday 15th November. RTE presenter Marty Whelan was the event MC.
Another North Dublin finalist represented her nursing home with distinction at the awards. Linda McPhillips was a finalist in the Nursing Home Ancillary Worker Award category.
Tadhg Daly, Nursing Homes Ireland CEO extended his congratulations to Mel: 'Congratulations to Mel for his magnificent achievement in winning the Registered Nurse of the Year Award.
'The award is established to celebrate excellence in the nursing discipline within our nursing homes.
'Candidates were required to demonstrate how their work contributes to care excellence within the nursing home and has a demonstrable benefit in achieving a culture of person-centeredness.
'Once again the standard of entry to the awards was exceptional, with entries received from nursing home candidates from across Ireland.
'Congratulations to Mel for his wonderful accomplishment of winning the prestigious honour.
'The residents and staff of Hamilton Park and the wider Balbriggan community should be immensely proud of his accomplishment.'
He also extended his congratulations to Linda: 'To reach the final was a superb achievement, with outstanding candidates put forward from across Ireland. Linda, the CareChoice Malahide and the local community should take tremendous pride in her achievement.'
Some 27 finalists from across Ireland went forward for nine awards. They recognise nurses, carers, ancillary workers, activity coordinators, excellence in dining and nutrition, excellence in dementia care, community initiative, and end of life care.
