A guilty plea after grocery shoplifting

A man who stole groceries from a Swords supermarket was arrested and was subsequently found with a small bag of cannabis herb on his person.

Anthony McClean (34) has been placed on a 12 month Probation Supervision Bond after he pleaded guilty to the offences. A positive Probation Report was handed into Swords District Court which recommended he be placed on the Probation Bond.

The court previously heard that the defendant, of Ardeevin in Swords went into Supervalu in Pavilions Shopping Centre on February 26. He selected a number of grocery items to the value of €13.50 before passing all points of payment.

He was stopped by security staff and all of the items were recovered. Gardai arrived at the scene and arrested him. However, they got a strong smell of cannabis from him and when they questioned him in relation to the cannabis, the defendant handed gardai a small bag of cannabis herb to the value of €15.

The defendant was ordered by Judge Conal Gibbons to address his addiction issues with the help of the Probation Services
