€600,000 grant for rugby club
A grant for €600,000 is to be awarded to Balbriggan Rugby Club, according to a local independent councillor
Cllr Tony Murphy (IA) has announced that the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross has signed off on the sports capital grant for Balbriggan Rugby Club.
The grant from the Department of transport, Tourism and Sport is €600,00o. This will allow the club now proceed with their long awaited clubhouse development.
Cllr Murphy said: 'This new facility will be a fantastic amenity for the whole community. The club presently cater for 130 mini players - these are boys and girls in the U7-U12 category.
'They also have 100 youth players from U13 to U17 level, girls rugby and the 'Stingers' inclusive rugby team as well as adult teams for men and women.'
On top of that the club has all its club volunteers, pavilion members and life members and all friends of Balbriggan RFC who gain enjoyment following the teams.
Cllr Murphy said: 'Balbriggan Rugby Club celebrate the diversity of cultures that its players come from. There are Irish, Spanish, Basque, French, English, Romanian, Polish, Latvian, Lituanian, Russian, Nigerian, Turkish, Eritrean, Chinese, South African and Indian players. Close to 20% of their youths and minis players are from families that are of a non-Irish national background.
'They strive to be a club for all; all abilities, all backgrounds, and everyone is welcome.'
