World Book Day is marked

World Book Day was celebrated at Skerries Community College when the school welcomed a well-known local author to share his love of books with the students.

Shane is from Skerries and is the author of the wildly popular 'Darkmouth' series of books and there were plenty of fans of the book in the school hanging on the author's every word.

The Darkmouth series is now being developed into a movie franchise and Shane was at the school to share not only his own story of how he became an author but also his own love of books.

World Book Day has become firmly established as Ireland's biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them with an opportunity to have a book of their own.

The school was delighted to host the local author who no doubt inspired students not only to read more but perhaps left a spark of inspiration behind him in the school that will create another Skerries author that might one day return to the local school to host a similar event at some point in the future.
