A WINNING lottery ticket has been sold in Swords to a 'secret millionaire' who claimed his €1,000,000 prize on Monday but kept his identity to himself.

A WINNING lottery ticket has been sold in Swords to a 'secret millionaire' who claimed his €1,000,000 prize on Monday but kept his identity to himself.

All we know of the new millionaire is that he lives in County Dublin but hails from Cork originally and he bought his winning ticket at the Texaco Service Station at Nevinstown on Monday, July 21.

A week later, as the town gossiped about who the winner might be, the lucky winner stepped up to claim his prize in the Daily Millions at the National Lottery Headquarters where he sipped champagne and said he was a changed man after a 'silly spending' and 'reckless' past.

The winner, who wishes his win to remain private, described himself as 'single and carefree' but likes to 'walk on the edge' and was delighted by the big win.

He said: 'I've always been a very decent fellow, a very generous person, to a fault. I made a lot of money working in London, but I had heavy debts about eight years ago, and lost about €400,000 in a bad investment.

'I regularly play all Lottery games and I'm delighted my luck's come up,' he said.

The new millionaire added: 'I'm older and wiser now. I realise what I've gone through to get to this point.'

'I don't want to be a public winner today, although in the future, when some fecker says to me 'what are you playing the Lottery for?', I'll be sorely tempted to tell him that I won €1,000,000, and blow my cover', he laughed while sipping a glass of champagne in the National Lottery Winner's Suite.

So what are his plans for the win? I have a house but I'll definitely be moving to a bigger house nearer the DART.

'I've been a silly spender and reckless in the past. But that's all changed now. I'm going on holiday to Frankfurt in Germany and I'm going straight out to buy an Audi car.

'I'll also keep playing the Lottery – sure where else would you get this?' laughed the lucky winner.

The mystery player bought a Daily Millions Plus one line ticket for €1.50 for the National Lottery's Daily Million draw and he picked his own numbers. He also entered his numbers into the Daily Millions Plus draw.

Those six numbers he picked, 1, 3, 4, 18, 21, 26 and bonus 34 were drawn in Monday's Daily Million draw.

Aidan Lowry, manager of the Texaco where the ticket was bought said he and the staff are 'absolutely thrilled' to have sold a million euro winning ticket.

'The National Lottery contacted us and we couldn't believe it,' Aidan told the Fingal Independent.

'There has been a great atmosphere around with customers popping in congratulating us, checking their tickets and wishing us well,' he said.

'The ticket was purchased on Monday and we are hoping it is a local person,' he said, adding though, that mystery still surrounds the winner.

'We are a very busy service station and with a lot of passing trade from the airport, it could be someone from outside the area. But in saying that, we do hope it is a local person.'

He said this is the first time a major winning ticket has been sold at the service station. 'We have sold a couple of €5,000 winning scratch cards but this is the biggest winning ticket we have sold.'
