Moriarty's celebrates 25th anniversary

Moriarty's SuperValu Balbriggan is celebrating a major milestone this month, marking 256 years in business.

To celebrate its silver anniversary, owner Luke Moriarty has organised some spectacular promotions, including a free Family Fun Day, and a fabulous giveaway of €250 shopping every day, for 25 days.

The 25th Anniversary Family Fun Day is happening on Saturday, May 28, in and around the store, and includes an amazing line up of entertainment for the whole family.

Live music, food tasting, inflatable fun, games, balloon artists, face painters, and costumed entertainers can be enjoyed, with spectacular prizes up for grabs on the day too.

Right throughout the month of May, there will be thousands of exceptional discounts and price promotions in Moriarty's SuperValu, guaranteed to the kick-start the summer in Balbriggan.

Inviting the entire Balbriggan community to join the celebrations on May 28, Luke Moriarty said that being involved locally has been key to the success of SuperValu.

'We always work hard on standards, and make sure we have the right prices and range for shoppers, but I truly believe SuperValu's success in Balbriggan is because we have a great local team here, and are part of this community,' Luke Moriarty says.

'Our promise for the next twenty-five years is to continue to serve our customers to the very highest standards, to stock high quality locally-sourced fresh foods and Irish groceries, to always invest in better facilities and services, and to consistently offer the best possible range, choice, and value,' he added.

Opened in 1991, Moriarty's SuperValu Balbriggan continually invests in store improvements, to provide state-of-the-art shopping facilities for the local community.

Owner Luke Moriarty and his family, Laura, James and Yvonne are very much involved in the business, which helps drive the high standards and excellent facilities Balbriggan shoppers enjoy.

'Everything we do in SuperValu is driven by the desire to serve our customers better, and repay the local community for their longstanding support of our family business,' James said.

The successful local supermarket has been a frequent award winner over the years, claiming the overall Supreme National Hygiene Award for Ireland's cleanest business in 1995, as well as the Off-Licence of the Year title on a number of occasions, and numerous other retail accolades over the years.

Supporting local suppliers, buying Irish produce, particularly fresh foods and meat, employing locally and supporting the local community is a longstanding cornerstone of the Moriarty Group business model.

The business has contributed well over €2.5m to community groups in Balbriggan and the surrounding area, since opening here in 1991.

'Tidy Towns, O'Dwyers GAA, the rugby and football clubs, all the schools, and every major community and charity initiative has had the backing of SuperValu Balbriggan over the years,' the store manager Brian Carrick said.

Testament to the excellent business Moriarty's SuperValu represents is the amazing long-term loyalty of its staff.

Key management members in Balbriggan, and well-known to the locals, Brian Carrick and local man Gerry Buckley have both worked with Luke Moriarty for 30 years.

The company has also recognised the long service of local employees, Christine Boylan, Margaret Costello, and Lee Redmond, who have all been with SuperValu Balbriggan since it opened twenty-five years ago, and have fond memories of the gala opening day!

Staff members working in the store for between fifteen and twenty years include Grace Walsh, Mary Quinlan, Janette Judge, Michael Murphy, Orla Bates, Marie Bracebridge and Brona Fanning.

Celebrating fifteen years working in the popular Drogheda Street supermarket are Danielle Costello, Donna Duffy, Alice Grimes, Joseph McGillvray and Brian Reilly.
