Following a successful hip replacement operation at Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital in 2004, in an effort to show his appreciation Leo Halpin became a voluntary fundraiser for the Hospital's Charity Foundation - a role he champions to this day. Leo and a team of dedicated volunteers from Oldtown and the surrounding communities, work tirelessly to ensure the day runs smoothly from start to finish.
'Leo is one of our most valued and respected volunteer fundraisers.' said a spokesperson for the Cappagh Hospital Foundation.
'He and his superb team of supporters make a real and very valuable contribution to the support of Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital.
'We are deeply grateful to Leo and everyone for their continued support - they are all true champions! Past funding from this Walk has had a huge impact on Cappagh Hospital.'
This year, leading the walk will be Pat McDonagh, a well-known local businessman who has his own reason to be grateful to Cappagh.
