Kettlebells fun a real test of fitness for club members

A CLUB that promotes fitness and exercise gave its members a bit of a pre- Christmas challenge.

Fingal Kettlebells, which runs kettlebell, running and bootcamp classes, rounded off the year with a fun event to test the fitness of its members. It was a fun social event with participants converting on Colaste Choilm in Swords from Swords itself, Malahide, Rush and Donabate for the challenge. Participants were asked to complete as many ' kettlebell snatches' as possible in five minutes. The kettlebell must be swung single handed from between the legs to an over head position. It requires strength to do one but fitness to do many! The kettlebells vary in weight to suit the level of the individual using it and there were some incredible performances on the night most notably Denise Murphy who completed 86 reps with a 16kg bell. And in the battle of the titans on 24kg kettlebells, Dave Reid narrowly won with 106 reps from Phil Mahady a close second on 100 reps. 2013 will see Fingal Kettlebells crew continue their quest to show as many of Fingals residents that staying fit and healthy is a combination of healthy eating, regular training and having the crack while doing it. For further details check out where there is plenty of information on all their running, kettlebell and bootcamp classes.
