GOAL humanitarian awards for two schools in Fingal

Two schools in Fingal have received special humanitarian awards from one of the country's leading aid agencies.

St Mologa's SNS, Balbriggan and Malahide Community School were among a select number of schools from around the country to receive the 2017 GOAL Humanitarian School Award.

The primary and post-primary schools received the award from GOAL as a result of their participation in development education and fundraising activities organised by GOAL.

GOAL's Development Education Coordinator, Louise Merrigan said: 'GOAL established the 'GOAL Humanitarian School Award' in 2016 to inspire humanitarianism in primary and secondary schools across the country,' We did so with the objective of recognising the efforts of students and teachers to learn more about the realities of some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people, and to take action for a better world.'

Principal of St Molaga's NS, Pauline Costello, said 'St. Molaga's Senior NS was delighted to receive the GOAL Humanitarian School Award again this year. Our students really benefited from an educational visit from GOAL which was very informative. They enjoyed raising money for those less fortunate by taking part in GOAL Jersey Day, knowing the difference that the money would make. This award recognises and affirms the important work we do in the school to promote global citizenship.'
