Finian's enjoy sporting fun
As the academic year draws to a close, St Finian's Community College in Swords decided it was time for students to get out from behind their desks and have some fun on the sports field.
The school recently hosted a Fun Sports Day at Fingallians GAA Club. The school and the club have had a long standing connection and many past pupils of the school have gone on to play at senior level with the club.
It has been a successful year for St. Finian's Community College with all kinds of great events happening throughout the academic year.
A school spokesperson said: 'Our students have been successful both in academic areas of school life, extra curricular activities and in further education initiatives with the colleges and universities around Dublin. Their hard work and dedication towards participation in school life was rewarded with a fantastic sports day to finish off the year.
'Our sports day provided an opportunity to make the school's culture, ethos and commitment to wellbeing visible to all our students.'
The sports and activities on the day included five-a-side soccer and GAA, a penalty shoot-out, athletics, high jump, shot put, hurling targets, archery, basketball, table tennis, old school sports day games and karaoke.
The highlight of the day for many was the 'Dunk Tank' which teachers volunteered to enter and students lined up to hit the target that would send their teachers fall unceremoniously into the tank of water. The day finished with a students versus teachers relay race in which the 6th year students were victorious.
The school spokesperson said: 'A huge thank you to the teachers who organised the event and to the students who took part and illustrated a strong sense of connectedness to their school and to their community.'
