Easter tasty treats are served up by young bakers at Rush NS

Easter and sweet treats go hand in hand and nowhere is that more recognised than at Rush National School where the annual Easter Bake Sale recently took place.

For this annual event, all the children at the school bring in a cake or bun or baked good to be entered into a competition and as you can see from the pictures, they came up with some delicious and elaborate looking bakes worthy of television's 'Bake Off'.

Each entrant to the competition gets a raffle ticket that can win them some great prizes later in the day.

There were two expert judges there on the day to run the rule over the bakes submitted by the children.

Sharon Hayden, owner of Skinn Batch Rush and Skinny Studio in Lusk was joined by Gareth Skelton, Executive Head Chef at the newly refurbished and relaunched Shoreline Hotel in Donabate.

The two judges were given the difficult task of ranking the best cakes and bakes into a top three in the junior section of the competition and a separate top three for senior section.

They also had to come up with an overall top 10 so had a lot of tasting, cutting and generally admiring to do.

There were amazing prizes for all the winners and rosettes for a further 50 amazing creations.

A spokesperson for the parents association at the school said: 'Not only is this a major fundraiser for our school but the creates such an atmosphere in the school right before the children split for Easter Break.'

Well done to all the budding bakers for really stepping up to the plate and filling that same plate with delicious Easter treats. It was quite a way to finish the term and break for Easter and there will be households all over Rush tucking into a lot of tasty cakes over the Easter as a result of the annual Bake Sale, it seems.
