Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Anthony Lavin launched the Battle of the Book 2019 last week at St Colmcille's GNS, Chapel Lane, Swords Demesne, Swords.
The Battle of the Book is a reading programme, which will run from now until January 2019, designed to encourage the children to read and gain confidence and to ignite a reading for life culture through shared discussion on a common book.
Six primary schools within the Fingal area, supported by Fingal Libraries, are taking part in this year's initiative, which is kindly supported by the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA)
This year the chosen books are 'The Book of Learning' by E.R Murray and 'Arthur Quinn and the World Serpent' by Alan Early. County Librarian Betty Boardman said: 'Fingal Libraries is delighted to have the support of Maura Cassidy and the DAA again this year for The Battle of the Book.'
The schools involved this year are St Colmcille's GNS, Swords; Powerstown Educate Together, Tyrrellstown; St Patrick's Senior NS, Corduff; Rush NS; Garristown NS; and St Nicholas of Myra NS, Kinsealy.
