Peninsula life to be captured 'Through the Lens'

If you have been out and about on the Donabate and Portrane peninsula lately, you may have noticed a few more photographers around than usual.

That is because, there is a new photographic group on the peninsula who aim to use their work not just to make pretty pictures but to benefits their community and their environment.

Through the Lens, is the newly-formed Donabate and Portrane Photographic Group which held its inaugural meeting in Donabate Golf Club recently.

Set up by three enthusiastic photographers, Alain Rochecouste, Philippa Coady and Joe Pryme, the group wanted to bring to life a club where photography in a friendly and sociable atmosphere was the prime interest and it would like to acknowledge the help given to it by Donald O'Keeffe of Donabate Golf Club in realising this ambition.

The club meets every first and third Monday for its activities and to share ideas and experience with other keen photographers.

Talks by experts on topics of interest will be offered together with educational evenings, studio lighting workshops, use of Lightroom and Photoshop plus hands-on photographic instruction and mentoring.

the club founders have strong ambitions to knit the new club into the very fabric of the unique place that is the Donabate and Portrane peninsula.

According to its founding members, the club aims to use its photography for the benefit of the community in providing a record of Donabate and the surrounding area, its people, events and the environment.

Enthusiastic photographers who have the same ambitions are welcome to join the club which hopes to grow in numbers and stature and become a familiar and valued part of peninsula life in Donabate and Portrane and we wish them all the very best in their photographic endeavours and adventures - why not join up and get snapping!
