Thrilling Donabate festival on way
Fourth annual Donabate Portrane Summer Festival set to roll out a super event programme
It seems hard to credit that another year has rolled by already and here we are at festival time again.
The fourth annual Donabate/Portrane Summer Festival will take place from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th August and we have a packed programme for you all to enjoy this year.
The festival launch takes place on Thursday, August 9 in the Waterside House Hotel featuring the Festival X-Factor.
This is a chance for local musicians, group or individual, to showcase their talents and compete for a prize of €500, kindly sponsored by SuperValu, Donabate.
The competition is open to age 16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian) and the judges decision is final.
The judges this year include Linzi from Santoria and Rory O'Connor of Rory's Stories Your friends and family also have a say in this as we will be running a voting system to accompany the judges opinions, so bring all the fan club as every vote counts!
The hotel shuttle bus will be running on the night. Check the festival Facebook page for details of the competition, and the bus times.
On Friday the action moves to the Festival Marquee where Joe Daly, magician extraordinaire, will entertain and amaze at the children's party for those aged four to 12 from 3 to 4pm.
The fun fair on the green will be up and running then with loads to keep every age happy. Friday night it's the adults turn to take over the Marquee with Ireland's definitive tribute band 'Live Forever Oasis', who will rock you back to the 90s and 00s at 10pm.
They will be ably supported at 8pm by Donabates' finest cover band 'DB Sound Collective'
Saturday sees an action-packed fun-filled day, starting in the hockey club pitch at Ballisk with a hockey skills bonanza for 5 to 12 year olds from 10am to 11.30am.
At 10.30am in Portrane, Swim Ireland will be hosting open sea races for all the family
In Newbridge House walled garden Alice in Wonderland will be entertaining the family with a Mad Hatters Tea Party from 12noon to 2pm. Come and meet the Queen of Hearts, the magical Cheshire Cat and of course the Wonderland Rabbit!
Dinny Collins and his crew will be there to provide some fun fitness games for all the family.
From 2pm to 5pm the Progressive Credit Union, Donabate is holding a children's funtime in their carpark with Bouncy Castles, garden games, face-painting and lots more.
In Portrane at 2pm the winners of the Festival X-Factor, and the next two top acts, will take to the Festival Stage on the green to entertain you. Then from 3pm to 5pm the afternoon tea dance takes place in the Festival Marquee with music by Stage Two; entry to this event includes a beautiful afternoon tea.
Saturday night it's time to dust off the Stetsons and buff up the boots for a hootenanny country and western hoedown with the brilliant 'Halfway There'. There are prizes for the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl so get that clobber on !
Sunday is the fantastic family fun day on the Green. The fun and games get started at 1pm on Portrane green with MCs Fintan and Michael to keep you amused and informed during the day from the Festival Stage.
There's a Craft Fair in the Marquee where you can sample artisan food and admire the local arts and crafts. Corvenieos Circus is in town complete with the Mini Roadster and the Unicycle; meet Alex the Lion, Melman the Giraffe, and have fun with the Circus Clown.
New this year is the Light Chaser Game for both kids and grown-ups to test their speed and agility in 30 and 60 second games.
There's Crazy Golf, Wooly Wards Petting Farm (kindly sponsored by Country Crest), Bingo, Sports for All. And new to the green this year is the Queen of the Beach Olive with her Secrets of the Seashore pop-up beach.
The kids will enjoy the arts and crafts tent and Orla Finn will be doing some family fitness fun.
There's a food village so that you can keep your energy levels up to enjoy all that is on offer. Rest your legs for a while and take the open-top bus tour from the green up to Tower Bay with Cathal on board to tell you all about the points of interest along the way.
There is a special treat in store for you all on Sunday night in the Festival Marquee with the brilliant 'Camembert Quartet', the greatest five-man quartet in the world who will play out Festival 2018. T
There will be a short break at 10pm so that you can all enjoy the fabulous festival fireworksThe Camembert Quartet are kindly sponsored by The Brook Pub.
The bar for all events in the Festival Marquee is by The Brook Pub. Leonards Coaches will be running a free bus service between Donabate and Portrane every night (kindly sponsored by Donabate/Portrane Community Centre).
The Fun Fair and Bouncy area will be running from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening.
