Star-studded line-up for fundraiser in Malahide

A star-studded event to raise funds for the Irish Kidney Association, featuring Red Hurley, Finbar Furey, Mary Byrne, Paddy Cole and Ronan Collins, takes place in the Grand Hotel Malahide next month.

Organised by Portmarnock resident Anne Burke, the fundraising night, being held on July 25, will raise vital funds for the Irish Kidney Association's Renal Support Centre at Beaumont Hospital.

Running once a year for over ten years, Anne's fundraiser has raised substantial funds for the Support Centre, which offers accommodation to relatives of loved ones being treated in Beaumont Hospital.

Anne herself has three children in kidney failure; one of whom has received a kidney transplant, and three others who are on the kidney transplant waiting list.

Speaking of the upcoming event in Malahide, Anne said:

'Red Hurley put the event together, arranging all the artists, and they're all doing it voluntary which is great. We have Ronan Collins, who has the radio show every day, Finbar Furey, Red Hurley, Paddy Cole, Mary Byrne, so we have a good lineup of artists. We did two evenings in St Anne's Church in Portmarnock with Red Hurley and we sold out, and then we do a lunch once a year, so instead of doing the church this year we're having this event in Malahide, just to change things a little bit.

'We're also having a lunch on the 29th of November, which we have once a year in the Sands Hotel in Portmarnock.'

Anne is expecting up to five hundred people to attend the fundraising night in the Grand Hotel next month, thanks to the help of Paddy Cole, who is promoting the event on Sunshine 106.8, and Ronan Collins, who will promote the night on RTÉ Radio 1. The Irish Kidney Association fundraiser will be held on July 25, with doors opening at 7.30pm. Tickets cost €29.50 and are available from Anne at: 087-1352775
