Lightning Comedy gears up for charity night at Swords Castle

The best in local comedy will be showcased at Swords Castle at this summer's Swords Summer Festival.

Lightning Comedy was founded by local award winning playwright David Gilna in 2018 never in his wildest dreams did he think it would have grown so popular with several sold out shows to its name and a loyal following of happy punters .

David said: 'We have performed in Dublin , Meath, Sligo & London. With Galway , Cork, Donegal and European Dates booked in for Late Autumn in what we are calling 'D'Parish On Tour'.

The comedy night that started in the Lord Mayor's pub in Swords now has a new city side home in Lanigan's on Eden Quay in Dublin's City Centre and a sponsorship deal with Swords Express for 2019 but David is delighted to announce that following the closure of the Lord Mayor's, a new Swords venue has also been found for the regular comedy night.

He said: 'I am delighted to announce our new home in the Mecca that is Swords, Lightning Comedy will be based in The Betsy from September.'

David has sadly lost a lot a friends through suicide and penned the award winning short My Happiness(2010) to create awareness about suicide among young males in Ireland.

With that all in mind, this summer, kicking off the Swords Summer Festival, David is bringing a night of Lightning Comedy in aid of the metnal health charity, Aware, at Swords Castle.

The charity is very close to the local performer's heart and tickets for the even go on sale next Friday, June 7 at Eventbrite.ie

Among the great peformers lined up to play a the special event are Paul Currie (Edinburgh Fringe Winner 2018) John Colleary (The Savage Eye, The Tommy Tiernan Show) Al Foran (Local Impressionist) David Gilna (Electric Picnic) Davey Reilly (Vodafone Comedy Festival) Christina McMahon( Ireland's Got Talent) Alan Henderson (The Good The Bad And The Irish) Gary Lynch (The Good The Bad And The Irish) Robbie Forde (Local) and Nadia Missaoui (Local).

It promises to be a great night full of the best of Irish, international and local Fingal comic talent and all hosted by your MC for the night, David Gilna himself. The evening promises to be a riot of comedy and all in the best possible cause.
