Lighthouse Art Group a beacon for Balbriggan artists

Balbriggan based Fingal Lighthouse Art Group held an information night in the Bracken Court Hotel recently, to enlist local artists for the group's upcoming Art Trail, to be held on August 17-25.

The Art Trail will run alongside Heritage Week, and will see Balbriggan artists display their work in local businesses around the town.

Twenty two artists have signed up for the event so far, which will showcase a wide variety of artwork from a diverse range of cultures.

Bernie Davies, from Fingal Lighthouse Art Group explains:

'We have five on the committee, and we were brainstorming as to what we wanted, and came up with the art trail. There used to be a very successful art trail in Balbriggan years ago, so If this is successful, we're hoping it'll be a yearly thing, and that we can make it into a big art festival in the town.

'What we did was we went around all the businesses in the town that we thought were suitable to display artwork, and asked their permission to put art in their shop or in their premises for a week, and twenty premises have said we can go ahead.

As well as displaying in local businesses, the group will also have a full exhibition in the town hall.

Fingal Lighthouse Art Group also has the support of Fingal County Council, who are sponsoring the event.

Bernie says:

'Once we get this art trail running then there's no stopping us; we're hoping to have another exhibition in December, so this is just the beginning.'
