Garristown's 'OsKaR Night'
In a wildly successful 'Night at the OsKaRs' Garristown GFC managed to pack 700 people into the CityNorth Hotel to enjoy a bit of Hollywood glamour.
The 'OsKaRs' fundraisers are the brainchild of Ballyboughal man, Kevin Rowe and are becoming an increasingly popular alternative fundraiser for sports clubs and community groups.
The event sees volunteers take drama classes then act in 10-minute versions of popular movies which are then screened at a gala night where 'OsKaR's are handed out to the best performers.
Event organiser, Kevin Rowe complimented the Garristown group, saying the films were 'some of the best we've ever produced' and this very special night was hosted by Adrian Kennedy with two famous judges from the sporting world, in local Dubs star, Dean Rock and Irish rugby legend, Shane Byrne.
Some 48 budding actors from Garristown and the surrounding area lined up to star in seven short film versions of popular movies to raise money for Garristown GFC as it hosted its very own 'OsKaRs' night.
Club chairman, Thomas White told the Fingal Independent that seven films made up the programme on OsKaR night with Forrest Gump, Rocky, The Hangover, Fatal Attraction, The Field and The Snapper all included as well as a nod to television with a version of the famous Christmas episode of Fr Ted.
