Fingal Libraries recently launched the Summer Stars Reading Adventure for all Fingal Libraries in a mobile van in Tyrrellstown.

It was launched by Councillor Eithne Loftus representing the Mayor. Also present were Fingal County Librarian Betty Boardman and Senior Executive Librarians Helen O'Donnell and Lillian Whelan. The Summer Stars Reading Adventure forms part of the overall National Literacy Programme 'Right to Read'.

It is an exciting reading based programme which is available free of charge in public libraries to all children across the country. It will run in all Fingal branch libraries throughout the months of July and August. All children are invited to register for the summer reading challenge with rewards and incentives along the way and a grand finale event at the end for all participants.

Fingal County Council's County Librarian, Betty Boardman said: 'The Summer Stars Reading Adventure is another initiative implemented by Fingal that aims to increase literacy and make reading enjoyable and accessible for children. The programme provides the whole family with an opportunity to explore the full range of events and facilities which are available in their local library, such as story time sessions, children's activities, access to talking books and games, computers and Internet access, and of course children's books for all ages.'
