Donabate girls journey to Oz

Scoil Phádraic Cailíní in Donabate is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a trip down the Yellow Brick Road.

The school has launched its celebratory year of 60 Years of Educational Excellence with a musical production of The Wizard of Oz.

The sold out musical ran all last week at the Donabate school to delighted audiences.

The enthusiasm and talent of the pupils meant the school was able to gather two full casts performing on alternate nights of the six night run.

Ms Ciara Greene, the Principal of the school, described the musical as 'a wonderful opportunity for the girls to explore and express their talents as well as experiencing the world of drama production and directing first hand'.

She described how the singing, dancing and acting emanating out onto the corridors of the school, in addition to the busy hive of costume making, set design and back stage work all cultivated an atmosphere of fun and excitement in the school.

The highlight for Ms Greene was the camaraderie between pupils and staff in this 'co-conspiracy for success' and she is proud of and appreciative to both. The drama team, Karen Tynan of K Star Academy and Tony Finnegan, actor and director, made up the drama production team and along with the support and hard work of the school staff, they all made this a week to remember at the school.
