Characters come to life in World Book Day event
The infinite possibilities between the covers of a book were centre-stage at a recently celebration of books and reading held at SS Peter' and Paul's Junior National School in Balbriggan.
The school was celebrating World Book Day and the children were encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite fictional character.
When the school gates opened, all kinds of animals, fairy-tale characters and a myriad of characters from children's books flooded into the Balbriggan school.
Each of the schoolchildren were carrying a great book to participate in a special reading event called 'Drop Everything and Read' which took place at 11am at the school.
The school congratulated pupils and parents alike for the enthusiasm on show in taking part in the fancy dress character costume competition where each teacher at the school picked a winner from their class.
All of the winners were sent to the front hall where the judges had a difficult job on their hands of choosing the overall winner. Alex Mazurek from First Class dressed as Sully, from his favourite hardback book 'Monster's University' was the ultimate winner. Alex's costume had to be seen to be believed with individual strips of paper fur hot-glued to his outfit. Each winner received a certificate and a precious homework pass from Mrs. Frayne. All classes enjoyed a range of activities to mark World Book Day including quizzes, projects, designing bookmarks and drawing their favourite book characters. Well done to all who took part.
