Art competition means festival is close

John Manning

The fifth Donabate & Portrane Summer Festival will take place from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th of August and we have a busy programme for you all to enjoy.

It is now an important tradition to run a competition in the local primary schools for the artwork to grace the front of the festival brochure.

This year the standard was extremely high and it was Charlie McGarry from St. Patricks Boys National who came out the 2019 winner.

The Festival will launch on Thursday, August 8 in the Shoreline Hotel featuring Donabate & Portrane's Got Talent.

On Friday, the action moves to Portrane Green where the fun starts with a soft opening at 2pm for children with disabilities and sensory issues while we the lights and music are kept off for a while.

Later that day, The Greatest Showman will entertain and amaze at the children's party, while the night entertainment will feature Ireland's definitive tribute band 'U2 Rattle and Hum' who will rock the night away.

Saturday will be an action-packed and fun-filled day. Starting in the Hockey club pitch at Ballisk and ending with a Country and Western event with brilliant 'Halfway There'.

There are prizes for the best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl so get that clobber on and join us for a great evening.

Sunday will be a fantastic family fun day on the Green with MCs Fintan and Michael who will be keeping you amused during the day.

The Craft Fair returns to the marquee where you can sample artisan food and admire the local arts and crafts.

Other attractions that day include circus, crazy golf, petting farm, bingo and sports for all to name some of the day's highlights.

After last year's success, Olive and her Secrets of the Seashore pop-up beach will be in attendance.

As always, the festival will be completed the with a fireworks Grand Finale.

Please keep an eye on the festival's Facebook page for updates and details.

The organising committee for the festivalwould like to thank Fingal County Council, Bord Iascaigh Mhara, Progressive Credit Union, Tesco Ireland and SuperValu Donabate, as well as all other local businesses that supported the events this year as well as the volunteers and community for their help in fundraising and in the running of Donabate & Portrane Summer Festival 2019!
