A summer camp that sounds good
The Fingal Academy of Music has launch of its Sounds Good Summer Camps offering a fun, alternative summer camp for the musically inclined child in your life.
The camps, which take place in the Malahide Parish Pastoral Centre, will give children between seven and 12 years of age the chance to play loads of fun musical games, write songs, form a band, and record an album.
The first Sounds Good Music Summer Camp is aimed at children between seven to eight years of age and will take place from July 2 to July 6 while the second camp of the summer, which is aimed at the slightly older group of nine to 12 years of age, will take place between August 13 and 24.
The Sounds Good Music Summer Camps began in 2009 as a way to provide a fun introduction to music for children in Fingal, outside of term-time.
Using only the finest young music educators, the camps offer excellent teaching and entertainment for the young people of Fingal. In the words of one parent who spoke to us about last year's summer camps: 'My daughter loved going to camp each morning. The final recital was very impressive and showed us all the hard work put in by everyone.'
Academy Director, Dónal Kearney said: 'We love encouraging children to make music. Writing a song is all about the process, the skills and the relationships that the children build in that process. Indeed, previous camp participants have recorded their own albums of original songs. No doubt it's the start of a prolific portfolio for many of the young songwriters we work with, and a fond memory to look back on.'
In 2017, the children on the "Sounds Good Music Summer Camp had the opportunity to record in Windmill Lane Recording Studios, one of the most iconic studios in the world.
