Town team to be established

Brendan Keane

A recommendation has been presented to the members of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council that a town team be set up to help maximise the development potential of the town and district.

The proposal was made by District Manager, Ger Mackey, in a report presented to the councillors at their monthly meeting in the Presentation Centre last week.

In the report Mr Mackey said that following a fact finding visit to Arklow it's recommended that a town team be established in Enniscorthy.

'The primary objectives of the town team are to encourage more collaboration, communication and cooperation between the local authority, the business community and civic organisations,' said Mr Mackey in his report.

He also said that the town team will undertake building block projects with the aim of having a positive impact on the economic performance of the town across smart measures.

'The initiative will be in a position to access best practice and to learn from other towns and cities positive experiences,' said Mr Mackey in his report.

He said part of the overall process for the team will be to develop the smart town strategy for the town which will be aimed at ensuring a unified message for the town.

'In essence it will be one voice, from one team, for the town,' said Mr Mackey.

The idea of developing a town team was then proposed by Cllr Barbara-Anne Murphy and seconded by Cllr Aidan Browne.
