Shot & Caught is a hit!
There was a welcome return to the 'rare aul times' at Conran's Pub in Rathnure recently as it hosted the Shot and Caught Barbecue. Now in it's third year, this unique idea has really grown legs and organisers were blown away by the reaction they received this year.
Basically, the idea behind the fundraiser is that everything that is cooked up on the night is caught or shot locally. That meant that there was mouth-watering dishes such as pheasant, duck, rabbit, venison, oysters, fish and much more, all cooked up by Monart Chef Dave O'Neill and Avoca Chef Leonard Rasmussen.
A huge crowd arrived at the pub on the night and there was also a sponsored shoot during the afternoon. One of the organisers, Brian Binnions describes how it came about. 'We were thinking about doing a fundraiser,' he said. 'Then on the night we were chatting about it in the pub, there was a good few of the shooting lads in and we thought it might be nice to do something different. We had a great night this year and there was a huge crowd in. In total, it raised €7,500, which is brilliant. We have a lot of people helped out with it and it's easy to do an event like this when you have a lot of people helping. We're delighted with the amount raised and we'll be handing it over on Friday night to Touched by Suicide.'
The organisers wished to thank everyone who helped out with the event in any way, particularly the chefs, musicians, sponsors.
