Enniscorthy Historical Re-enactment Society kept the flag flying, literally, for Republic Day as they marched into Market Square on Monday evening last April 24 in full 1916 regalia, Irish Volunteer, Cumann na mBan and Flying Column to commemorate the 101st Anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

The day was marked with EHRS member Graham Cadogan reading the Proclamation, the playing of the National Anthem and a few well-chosen words by Sean Og Doyle on the Rising and in particular the participation of many of our Protestant brethren in the birth of our Nation including playwright Sean O'Casey and Sam Maguire who had the All-Ireland Football trophy named in his honour.

Chairman Ray Murphy then called on new Town Manager Liz Hore to say a few words to conclude the brief and dignified ceremony and Liz was lavish in her praise of EHRS saying that they added pomp and ceremony to all occasions with their authentic costumes and weaponry and were a major asset for the town.
