Plenty of stories from Uncle Don!
Artists, environmentalist, children's author and broadcaster Don Conroy arrived in Bunclody Library recently for a special talk which looked at life, nature and creativity. 'The Creative Journey' was an appropriate title, given the journey the man himself has enjoyed over the years. From taking on big environmental causes, to drawing cartoons with Dustin the Turkey, he's pretty much done it all!
Librarian Yvonne Smith was delighted to welcome a large crowd on the night as Don took a look at nature in a creative way, telling stories and doing a few drawings along the way. An entertaining evening, it was a mix of drama, art and some hilarious stories from a very interesting life. Don spoke of how he studied life drawings and culture at the National College of art before going on to work as a designer and illustrator for advertising agencies as well as in theatre. Then a generation of children would have grown up watching him drawing on the likes of The Den, as well as gaining a legion of followers through his environmental work.
Yvonne thanked Don for his time, and was delighted to announce that Don would be giving a workshop at the library during the summer, this time for the children.
