Kids drama camp in the Athenaeum
The Athenaeum in Enniscorthy will be the venue for a summer drama camp from August 6 to 10.
The camp, which will be suitable for children aged between 8 and 12 and will take place from 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. each day.
The camp will be facilitated by John Aspill (drama), Sorcha O'Connor (choreography) and Maura Flannery (music).
The camp will culminate with a family performance during which the participants will get to demonstrate their new acting, dancing and singing skills.
Mr Aspill has been involved in theatre and circus performance all his life and speaking to this newspaper about the event he said it will provide the children with an insight into the world of theatre but will also help boost confidence.
'The camp programme will be based around a theme of the song 'Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand',' he said.
'We want the children to develop the ideas themselves and use their imagination,' he added.
'They will write as they go and it will all be geared towards getting them ready for a performance.'
While there is a cost to participating in the initiative (€75 for the week and a €10 discount for siblings) admission to the end-of-camp performance will be free-of-charge.
Mr Aspill has been involved in theatre and circus performance for over 30 years.
While he himself was born in Britain both his parents are Irish and he has lived in Wexford town for the last six years.
Having written, produced, directed and acted in countless shows he is a veteran of stage theatre.
He also has a masters in theatre from Lincoln University and teaches art and drama with Waterford Youth Reach.
Mr Aspill is well known in Wexford where he set up the very successful and popular Wexford Studio Theatre group.
