Gangsters and Molls to paint the town red
Treacy's Hotel will resemble something from 'Guys & Dolls' on Friday, May 4, as the first social event of this year's Strawberry Fair, Street Rhythms and Roots Festival kicks off. People are encouraged to take a step back in time for a 'Great Gatsby Night' which will kick off the May Bank Holiday weekend in the hotel's D-Bar, with all the style and colour of the prohibition era.
The bar will be transformed into a Chicago style 'Speak Easy' for the night, complete with gangsters, molls, spats, hats, boas and machine guns. Plans for this transformation are already well underway and excitement is building. Adding to the authenticity, gin cocktails will be served, sponsored by Staffords and Beefeater Gin, while Ain't Misbehavin' will provide a soundtrack of cool, smooth jazz throughout the night.
The event is being promoted as a fundraiser for this year's festival and tickets are priced at just €15, available from members of the Fair Committee or Treacy's Hotel. String pearls, feather boas, spats, hats and bow ties will be the dress code for the evening and charity clothes shops in Enniscorthy are helping the organisers by sourcing and providing suitable attire for the night.
In other festival news, active negotiations are already underway for a special guest 'personality' to open this year's event and an announcement of the mystery man or woman is expected shortly.
