Dramatic debut for new group
A new local drama group formed back in September made it's mark at the Presentation Centre recently with a staging of the Brian Friel classic 'Lovers'. Still in its infancy, Blackstairs Mountain Theatre group was aiming to make its mark on the local drama scene quickly with their first production and they enjoyed great success, receiving positive feedback from audiences on both nights.
The group really brought Friel's powerful words to life with some high quality production and a clear vision that supported the mood of the troubled teenagers. Erin O'Brien as Margaret Mary Enright gave a moving performance with carefree vitality while James Freeman shone in the role of Joseph Brennan as his hopes and aspirations unfolded in this memorable play. Director Jimmy Kavanagh was delighted with how the play was received and the group plan to announce a follow up early in the New Year.
