Drama group prepares for laughter

Brendan Keane

The members of Enniscorthy Drama Group are busy putting the finishing touches in place ahead of their forthcoming performance of two one-act plays in the Presentation Centre.

The group will stage 'Mary, Mary', and 'When I Snap My Fingers', in the venue at 8 p.m. on August 8, 9 and 10.

The performance promises to provide a lot of laughs for theatre-goers as the storylines are based around good old fashioned wit and comedy.

The group enjoys an ever expanding programme of theatre and the two forthcoming one-hour plays were written by Scottish playwright, Brude Adam.

A spokesperson for the group told this newspaper that the two plays 'are guaranteed to have Enniscorthy audiences in stitches'.

In 'When I Snap My Fingers' the audience will see performer, Sven Gali`s, hypnosis stage act interrupted by a fire alarm leaving him with no chance to remove the affect of certain trigger words on volunteer participants Simon and Maria Moffat.

All hell breaks loose when the Moffats host a dinner party for Simon`s boss, Dan and his wife, Dolly, in an effort to create an impression and advance his flagging career.

However, instead of being on their best behaviour the Moffats cause comic havoc as they react rather weirdly to certain words and phrases.

'[It's] a 60-minute laugh out loud comedy with lots of good old fashioned fun and humor,' said the spokesperson.

The second play, 'Mary, Mary', will basically be comic chaos as Terry brings his new woman Mary home to meet his mother - who is also called Mary.

However, he does not know that his mother, in an effort at matchmaking, has already invited a colleague of his - another person named Mary - around to the house in the hope of pairing them up.

It all leads to a situation of complete and utter chaos and confusion.

Directed by Tom Reddy the performances in the Presentation Centre are sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience - especially given the fact they will be performed by Enniscorthy Drama Group.

Tickets for the shows are priced €10.
