Nine students from the Enniscorthy Dragons will be flying the flag for Ireland at the world championships in Portugal next month.

The students will fly out on October 24 before returning on October 31, hopefully laden down with medals.

Mark Enstone of the Enniscorthy Dragons said that the only female fighter travelling to Portugal, Robyn Butler, will be going there to defend the gold medal she won at last year's world championships and he said he is hoping she will retain her title.

Jack McAuliffe will also be in medal contention having won two gold medals at the European Championships Invitational earlier this year while Kevin Murphy won a bronze medal at the same championships.

The rest of the fighters won gold and silver medals throughout the year.

Mark said this will be the highlight of the year for the club adding he is hopeful that the fighters will return home with medal. He thanked Edward's Coaches and Pat White for the club's fighting tops.
