Double fun for Alex and Ronan
There were double celebrations and shocked faces at Rackard's of Caim recently as great friends Ronan Barrett of Monart and Alex Kelly-Sheridan of Clonroche walked into a big surprise at their joint 18th birthday party.
Both Alex and Ronan's families were determined to throw them a big bash to mark their coming of age and they employed some fantastic trickery to keep the surprise alive - both of them thinking they were going to a party for the other!
'It was very funny,' said Alex's mam Tina. 'He thought he was coming to Alex's party and she thought she was coming to Ronan's. When Ronan arrived in he thought everyone had shouted surprise by mistake. Then, Alex had seen Ronan go ahead in and thought she had missed the surprise! The pair of them hadn't a clue. It was brilliant!'
Great friends for a number of years, Ronan and Alex attended Enniscorthy Vocational School together and both are now doing courses there having completed the Leaving Cert. Ronan is doing legal studies, while Alex is studying community care, hoping to become an SNA.
Once they got over the initial shock, the pair had a great night surrounded by family and friends and there were great cheers as they blew out their eighteen candles. Friends travelled from far and near to be there on the night and DJ Liam Sharkey made sure that the dancefloor was full for the night as the party went on until the early hours.
