All manner of marvellous machines on display at Caim Vintage Day

Pádraig Byrne

There was a wonderful atmosphere around Caim recently as people came from far and wide to take in the sights and sounds of the annual Vintage Run and Threshing Day there. Over the course of a packed afternoon, impeccably maintained machinery and vehicles from all over the county was paraded as the Vintage Run got things underway.

After that, it was time for a bit of elbow-grease as the threshing got underway.

Organised by Caim Vintage Club, the event is always a big hit with local families and this year was no different as young and old marvelled at the machinery and enjoyed a range of activities from a bouncy castle and bottle stalls to a wheel of fortune and bric-a-brac.

'We had a massive crowd and a great amount of tractors and cars taking part in the run,' said Chairman of Caim Vintage Club Paddy Buckley.

'We host it every year ourselves, but we get great support from other clubs around the place. We had a big crowd of volunteers on the day as well and we even had people from Canada and England, who were over with family relations, there helping out on the day.'

As well as being a great day out, the event is also a great fundraiser with Wexford Hospice Homecare, Caim Senior Citizens Group and Caim Vintage Club the beneficiaries.

While money is still being tallied, Paddy says that it's looking like the event has raised in excess of €5,000, a figure organisers were delighted with. They thanked everyone who took part, came along and helped out in any way in making the event such a success.
