Countless hours of painstaking preparation in the gym well and truly paid off for a trio of local weightlifters recently as they managed to bring a fine haul of medals back from the AWPC World Powerlifting Championships in Manchester.

Brendan O'Rourke from Clonhaston, Laura O'Shea from Davidstown and David O'Keeffe from Kiltealy are all part of the South East Powerlifting Club and put in countless early mornings and late nights at the foot of the Blackstairs in Kiltealy Ultimate Conditioning Gym under the watchful eye of coach Colin Power. The three really devoted themselves to the task at hand and left no stone unturned in their preparation and it well and truly paid off as they managed some wonderful lifts in Manchester.

Brendan managed to bring home two gold medals and a new national bench record in his category. Laura also brought home two gold medals, while David brought home silver and bronze in what was his first year at competition level.

All three were over the moon with their performances at the event and there were plenty of celebrations when they returned before hitting the gym once more to prepare for the next competition!
