A COLLECTION OF WORK by renowned Enniscorthy author Colm Tóibín has been shortlisted for the €35,000 Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award in Cork.
His collection of short stories, ' The Empty Family', has made the list of six, where it is joined by 'Saints and Sinners' by fellow Irish writer Edna O'Brien and other work by authors from China, Canada, and two from the USA. This marks the first time that two Irish authors have been shortlisted for what is the world's largest and most prestigious short story award. It will be awarded for what is judged the best original short story collection published in English anywhere in the world between July 1 last year, and June 30 just gone by.
The winner will be announced at the culmination of the Cork International Short Story Festival on Sunday September 18.
