Strawberry miles raises smiles
This year's Creane & Creane Strawberry miles road race organised by Slaney Olympic Athletics Club was a great success.
The event was the second in the Creane & Creane Insurance race series and was comprised of a 10 mile and five mile course option.
The first male and female home in the five mile run were Dara Cloke and Clodagh Kelly, while in the 10 mile run it was Sean Heir and Grace Kennedy.
It was hosted by the athletics club as a fundraiser for the organisation and it had a large number of entrants.
In addition to fun and leisure athletes, the race also attracted some of the top road racers in the country, with some very competitive times being recorded by the participants.
The organisers also had pacers in place at certain points along the routes to help ensure that all participants achieved their respective goals and targets.
A range of prizes were awarded in the open races section and also in all veteran categories, with all runners being presented with specially commissioned finishers' medals.
The club expressed delight at the success of the race, with the committee expressing gratitude to everyone who took part.
A spokesperson commented: 'The atmosphere at the finish line was amazing and that makes all the hard work worth it.'
The club also acknowledged the event sponsors and the club members and their families who gave their time to support the event in a number of different ways.
'Without all of them this race wouldn't happen each year,' said the spokesperson.
