Rory will be honoured at Blackstairs Blues

This year's Blackstairs Blues Festival will be officially launched this coming Thursday, August 22, in Holohan's Pub in Enniscorthy.

The launch will take place at 8.30 p.m. and this year's full programme of events will be announced on the night.

However, this newspaper can reveal that the late Irish blues rock legend Rory Gallagher will be fondly remembered this year, with tribute band Deuce scheduled to perform over the festival weekend.

Gallagher's brother and manager, Donal, will also be making an appearance at the festival.

The Blackstairs Blues Festival is now firmly established as one of the foremost music events of its type on the Irish calendar and this year it will be celebrating its 25th anniversary. Some legendary exponents of the blues genre have performed at the event down through the years and the organisers have worked hard at ensuring this year's line-up is one of the best ever.

Full details of the bands and profiles of some of the acts due to take part will be profiled in this newspaper in the coming weeks, with the event itself taking place from September 13 to 15.

Thursday night's press launch is an open event and the organisers are encouraging everyone in the community to go along where, in addition to hearing about some of the acts due to appear, they will also be treated to a performance from Enniscorthy-based blues rock band, The BC Blues Band.

Details of venues, performance times and fringe workshops will also be revealed at the press launch.

For more details about the event see the festival's Facebook page and forthcoming editions of this newspaper.
