The question of money paid over in relation to road closures as a result of ongoing work on the Enniscorthy bypass was raised at last week's meeting of Enniscorthy District Council. Cllr Johnny Mythen pointed out that a levy of €500 per day was charged in relation to road closures for the bypass and asked if this money would be ring-fenced for road maintenance around the district.
Engineer Joanne Kehoe replied that she didn't believe that this money came directly to the council roads section, something which angered Cllr Mythen.
'Why not?' he asked. 'They're leaving the roads in bits around the place. That money should go directly towards fixing the roads.'
