While strawberries are a common site on the roads around Wexford, strawberry runners are set to take over the roads on June 24 as the Slaney Olympic Strawberry 5 & 10 Mile race gets underway.

This is the inaugural year of this event which offers both a five and ten mile option and aims to attract walkers, joggers and runners to take the roads in the height of strawberry season. The race is a fundraiser for Slaney Olympic AC and is sponsored by Treacy's Hotel and Wexford County Council.

Renowned for a festive and friendly atmosphere, there will be music and race commentary at the starting line on the Promenade with the fun getting underway at 10 a.m.

There will also be pacers for the 10 Mile at 70, 80 and 90 minutes to help participants to achieve their goals. Up to June 22, the cost of entry is €20 for the 10 Mile and €15 for the 5 Mile. All finishers also receive a specially commissioned spinning strawberry medal. Entry forms are available from MySport in Enniscorthy or you can register online at www.active.com.
