The pupils in Monageer National School were visited by fitness expert, Tom Dalton, recently for an event showcasing the importance of physical fitness in terms of a person's overall health and well-being.

During the event in Monageer Mr Dalton highlighted the importance of children and adults having a healthy lifestyle.

Mr Dalton also highlighted a number of other topics to the children and staff aimed at underlining the need to adopt a balanced, healthy approach to life and how that can have a very positive impact on a person's overall well-being.

In addition to exercise he focussed attention on healthy eating and explained to the children how healthy eating habits and physical activity go hand-in-hand.

In an informative and fun way Mr Dalton highlighted that physical fitness routines and healthy eating habits are things that should be developed at an early age to ensure that as children get older they have already adopted healthy, everyday life practices.

As well as giving advice and information to the children Mr Dalton also demonstrated some of the fitness exercises the children could engage in on a regular basis.

He underlined ways that leisure time could be utilised so that it ensured that people stayed physically fit.

The visit was part of a 'fit squad' initiative organised in conjunction with Fyffes.

A particular emphasis of the nationwide programme is highlighting how staying fit can be fun and that even children who are not necessarily into sport can enjoy a range
