New scheme for local authority estates
The very first Local Authority Housing Estate Award Scheme 2017 was introduced by Padraig O'Gorman from Wexford County Council Housing Department to the members of the Enniscorthy Municipal District last week.
'The general purpose of the scheme is to recognise and reward the work of the community in the upkeep of local authority estates and acknowledge the continuous voluntary contribution of residents in the maintenance of their estates,' said Mr O'Gorman.
The scheme is open to all local authority built areas and is about fostering pride in the estates and recognising and rewarding individuals and groups for their efforts.
Prizes will be given in the following categories: Best Kept Estate in each Municipal District Area; Best Estate Feature in each Municipal District Area; Overall Best Kept Local Authority Housing Estate in County Wexford.
Winners will receive vouchers for their local garden centre and results will be announced at Wexford County Council Residents Day which will be held October 2017 with judging taking place during the summer months.
'Applications need to be completed Wednesday, May 31, at 5 p.m. Forms can then be submitted to your local authority,' said Mr O'Gorman.
