A young 10-year-old girl from Oulart who suffers with Cerebral Palsy fulfilled her dream of becoming a honorary guard last weekend.

Gorey Gardaí, in association with Little Blue Heroes, hired Lauryn Tracy for the day. She dressed in the full Garda uniform, answered phone calls in the station, arrested two 'shoplifters' in Gorey Shopping Centre and to top it all off she met Santa Claus in the shopping centre.

Sergeant Evelyn Reddan said it was their first year to take part in the not for profit charitable foundation that is operated voluntary by Garda staff to help families in local communities who have children with a serious illness.

'Lauryn is Garda Gavin Tracy's daughter and he has been with us for 10 years now,' said Sgt Reddan. 'It was a brilliant day and we got great attention.'

Lauryn, who was born with Cerebral Palsy, has received numerous heart surgeries. She arrived last week in her Garda uniform to Gorey Garda Station and answered the phone.

'We then went to the shopping centre and staged two people shop lifting so Lauryn could arrest them,' said Sgt Redden. 'After we did a little check point too.'

Lauryn had a great day and it ended on a high note when she got to meet Santa Claus.
