A local councillor in Enniscorthy has expressed disgust at a recent incident of illegal dumping in the town.

Cllr Jackser Owens contacted this newspaper to highlight his anger and concern over the fact that someone 'dumped their rubbish' outside the South East Animal Rescue shop in Slaney Street.

The incident occurred sometime overnight on Sunday, August 18 and the rubbish remained in situe for a number of hours before being removed by local authority staff.

'This is absolutely disgraceful that someone would do this,' said Cllr Owens.

'I went to the council at 9 a.m. that morning and reported it but it was there for a long time before that,' he said.

'It's terrible that someone would dump this in the middle of Slaney Street; in the middle of our town,' he added.

While the rubbish was on the road someone placed a sign on it that read: 'This is someone's rubbish - not donations.'

'It's just awful that someone would do this and they should be ashamed of themselves,' said Cllr Owens.
