A pair of students from Meánscoil Gharman are among 20 finalists who have been selected for the SEAI One Good Idea National Finals which are to take place in Dublin Castle on May 15. Food Fanatics, Chloe Fortune and Róisín Reid impressed the judges with their project, as well as their drive and dedication and are now looking forward to flying the flag for Enniscorthy in the national finals.

The One Good Idea Competition encourages students to create innovative and inspiring campaigns to highlight the small changes that can make a big difference to our lives, our pockets and our planet. The team will have to pitch their presentation to the panel of expert adjudicators before the ultimate winners are chosen.

Chloe and Róisín put in an incredible amount of work with primary school students across the town to raise awareness about reducing food miles and the carbon impact we have with our food choices. They organised guest speakers such as local grower Sheila Kirwan and Gorse Farms in Bunclody and ran workshops for primary school classes in Oylegate NS, Kennedy Park NS and Gaelscoil Inis Córthaidh on the importance of choosing local and seasonal produce. The fastidious students also worked with first and second year students in their own school and fundraised money to support their campaign.

Everyone at the school is 100% behind them as they take their campaign to the capital and hopefully they can bring a big win back to Slaneyside.
