Two parcels of land in the Ferns area performed very well at auction last week.

The auctions which were both held in the offices of Quinn Property in Carnew earlier this month were presided over by auctioneer David Quinn.

The first parcel of land, 20 acres at Bolachoir, Ferns, saw 30 people in attendance.

The lands which are situated 5km from Ferns are laid out in three fields with good road frontage. It had been guided at €200,000 prior to auction.

On the day, bidding was brisk with an opening bit of €200,000 which quickly moved to €270,000 with two bidders. It was declared on the market at this stage with a new bidder entering. The hammer went down and the land was sold to an adjoining farmer at €300,000 or €15,000 per acre. Both the seller and buyer were delighted with the result.

The second parcel of land was seven acres at Lodgewood, Ferns.

Again 30 people attended the auction for the land which are located opposite the Wexford GAA Centre of Excellence. The lands attracted a good deal of interest and guided in the region of €80,000 to €90,000. On the day of auction, bidding started at €70,000 and with the help of four bidders it rose to €110,000 at which point it was declared on the market.

A new bidder entered the frame at this stage and it was knocked down to this bidder at €132,000 or €18,900 per acre.

Speaking afterwards David Quinn said: 'This was an excellent result and we have a number of disappointed under bidders looking for similar land in this area',
