The Society of St Vincent de Paul's charity shop in Enniscorthy has won a major regional award.

The 'Vincent's' shop secured the Team of the Year award for the south east region at this year's SVP National Shops Awards.

The shop is one of five SVP stores in the county and is part of a network of 230 stores nationwide.

Orla Harrington, from the Enniscorthy shop, accepted the award from the SVP national retail development manager, Dermot McGilloway, and Noel Cassidy who is SVP South East shops area manager.

The presentation was made at the University of Limerick.

The Vincent's charity shops are a very important aspect of the service SVP provides as they provide an income source for the society which is recycled back into the community.

The charity shops are managed by a small number of professionals who are assisted by a large number of volunteers and community employment trainees.

The profits generated from the charity shops, some of which also supply furniture, are recycled into local conferences around Ireland to support those in need.
