Table quiz - Hillbrook Lawn Tennis Club will be holding a table quiz on Friday, November 15, at 7.30pm.

The event will have some great spot prizes up for grabs.

The cost of participating will be €40 per table-of-four.

The quiz will take place in the IFA Centre on Mill Park Road and the support from the community will be greatly appreciated.

Jim Kealy concert night

A benefit concert night will take place in the Riverside Park Hotel on Wednesday, November 27.

It's being organised in support of radio broadcaster, Jim Kealy, who is in need of a new prosthetic leg.

Now aged 62, Mr Kealy had his left leg amputated from below the hip when he was 15 years-of-age as a result of a congenital deformity from birth.

Very grateful for the support he has received from his colleagues and friends he hopes to raise €20,000 required for a new prosthesis.

Leading figures from the entertainment world have pledged their support to the concert including Declan Nerney; Theresa and the Stars; Gerry Gutherie; Pat McKenna; the Model Banner and Olivia Douglas - with more names due to be added.

The concert is the first in a series of planned fundraising ventures and tickets for the event, priced €25, each are now on sale from the Irish National Heritage Park; the Riverside Park Hotel; Enniscorthy and District Chamber of Commerce office; the reception desk in St Senan's Primary School, Templeshannon, Enniscorthy; Market House, Gorey, and St Michael's Theatre, New Ross.

Nurses' Mass

The Wexford branch of the Retired Nurses Association will be hosting a Mass for deceased members of Wexford Health Services in Oylegate Community Centre on Wednesday, November 6, at 7.30 p.m.

The mass will be followed by light refreshments.

Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

Three Legends Run

Slaney Olympic Athletic Club will be holding its annual Three Legends 6K run on Sunday, November 17.

The event will take place in Davidstown and will begin at midday with registration from 11 a.m.

Participants will be able to run, walk or jog the course and all proceeds will go towards Slaney Search and Rescue, and Irish Pilgrimage Trust Group 94.

The event is organised in memory of three well known members of the club who ran together but who passed away: Theresa Cash; Joe Cash and Tony Wickham.

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be served in Davidstown hall after the event.

Everyone in the community is invited to support this fantastic event.

Stop food waste

An event will take place in Enniscorthy library this week aimed at highlighting ways people can stop wasting food.

Betty Kehoe will be in attendance on Thursday, October 31, to talk about various aspects of food waste and what can be done to decrease and prevent it.

A spokesperson for the library said that 'in light of the significant environmental and social issues arising from the disposal of food waste, and the realisation of the associated costs, individuals and groups are now tackling the issue'.

Everyone in the community is invited to this free event which will get under way at 7.30 p.m.

La Leche meetings

Meetings of Le Lech League, which is aimed at highlighting the importance and benefit of breastfeeding, take place on the first Tuesday of each month in Astro Active, Bellefield, Enniscorthy, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

The sessions are facilitated by Siobhán Ward.

Shoebox appeal

The annual Christmas Shoebox appeal will take place across county Wexford again this year.

A spokesperson for the volunteer committee behind the initiative told this newspaper: 'We are looking for volunteers to help in our warehouse this year during the month of November.

Anyone, who can lend a hand helping with checking shoeboxes will be made very welcome. Even if you can only give a few hours, every little helps.'.

The committee will also be very appreciative of any donations that people can make towards the appeal including small toys, toothpastes, school supplies etc.

Fundraiser

A charity fundraising event will take place in Enniscorthy on Thursday, November 7.

The coffee morning and sale of work event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and will be held at the astroturf.

It's being organised by Enniscorthy Retirement Association and will feature a wide range of attractions including stalls, produce, crafts, 'good as new' products, books, a bottle stall, raffle and tea and coffee.

The organisers are encouraging everyone in the community to support the event which will raise money for three local charities.

Enniscorthy retirement

The next members' meeting of Enniscorthy Retirement Association will take place on Tuesday, November 5, in the Riverside Park Hotel.

The meeting will get under way at 2.30 p.m.

The association has a number of other events planned for the coming weeks including: Coffee morning/sale of work on Thursday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the astroturf.

There will be a trip to Cork from November 25 to November 28, and a day trip to the RDS Craft Fair on Wednesday, December 4.

Ongoing activities in the association include: Mondays and Fridays, pitch-and-putt at St Patrick's Park (at 10.30 a.m); line-dancing (at 11 a.m.) and bowls (at 1 p.m.) - also at the astroturf; Wednesdays, riverside walk at 11 a.m. meeting up at the Riverside Park Hotel; Quiz at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, and bingo on Wednesday, November 20 - both at Loreto Village; Thursdays, scrabble at 10 a.m. and crafts at 2 p.m. - both at the astroturf.

Christmas Fair

A Christmas fair will take place in Galbally village on Sunday, November 24, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The event is being organised by the local sports and leisure club and everyone in the community is encouraged to support it.

The Christmas Fair will provide an ideal opportunity to pick up early Christmas presents in the run up to the festive season.

Coffee Morning

A coffee morning and sale will be held in Clonroche Community Hall on Friday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to midday.

The event is being organised in support of the RNLI and Killegney and Rossdroit parishes.

The organisers said a range of attractions and activities will also be on-site that day, including a raffle, cakes, bric-à-brac, local produce, books and a bottle stall.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to go along to support the event which will provide an ideal opportunity to buy Christmas cards and gifts.

Everyone is welcome so why not go along for a cuppa and a chat?

Whist Drive

The local whist drives sessions have resumed in Enniscorthy.

The next regular whist drive takes place in St Anthony's Unit at the CWCW on Friday, November 8, and 22, at 8 p.m.

Jewellery search

The search is ongoing for the owner of a piece of jewellery that was found by a local woman in the Riverside Park Hotel earlier this year.

The piece was found just a couple of days before St Patrick's Day.

It was bought in a shop in Dublin, that is now closed.

The woman who found it is anxious to get it back to its owner as she feels it might be of huge sentimental value.

School reunion

The pupils who formed the 1989 class in Coláiste Bride, Enniscorthy are being invited to attend a 30-year school reunion event in the Rugby Club on November 2 at 8 p.m.

A WhatsApp group has been set up for the people involved and the organisers are hopeful that as many people as possible will be able to attend.

The night will feature an 80s disco and Liam Sharkey will also be adding to the entertainment.

One of the organisers, Dervla Tierney, told this newspaper that a slideshow of photos will also be displayed and anyone with photos they would like to have included can contact her directly at 087 9146393.

Defibrillator checks

Clubs, groups and organisations throughout the Enniscorthy town and district areas that have defibrillators are reminded to ensure they are in perfect working order.

Batteries need to be checked to ensure they are fully charged and care should be taken that pads are always maintained within their specified working date.
